How to Change Passwords for an App Hosting Package
This guide explains how to change passwords for your App Hosting package from the Client Area.
All password management options for your App Hosting package are available on your service details page in the Client Area.
Open Your Service Details Page
First, log in to the Client Area and open your App Hosting service details page.
To do this:
- Log in to the Client Area.
- Go to your active services.
- Open the App Hosting package for which you want to change the password.
After opening the service details page, you will see the main service information, package details and password management options.
Password Requirements
Each service and installed application must use a unique password. The same password cannot be used for another app or service.
If you try to use a password that is already used by another app or service, an error will be displayed and the password will not be accepted.
Your new password must meet the following requirements:
- Must be at least 12 characters long.
- Must be no longer than 30 characters.
- Must contain at least one uppercase letter.
- Must contain at least one lowercase letter.
- Must contain at least one digit.
- Must contain at least one special character.
Allowed special characters are:
!@#$%^&*()-_=+{}[]<>?.,
Passwords must be unique. You cannot reuse the same password for FTP/SSH, HTTP or any installed application. If the same password is already used by another app or service, the system will display an error and the password will not be accepted.
Change FTP/SSH Password
On the main service details page, you can change your FTP/SSH password.
This password is used for:
- SSH access.
- SFTP access.
- FTP access, if FTP is available for your package.
Find the FTP/SSH password change option on the main service details page, enter your new password and save the changes.
After changing your FTP/SSH password, you must use the new password for future SSH, SFTP and FTP connections.
Change HTTP Password
On the same service details page, you can also change your HTTP password.
The HTTP password is used for protected web access, if HTTP authentication is enabled for your package or application.
Find the HTTP password change option on the main service details page, enter your new password and save the changes.
The FTP/SSH password and HTTP password are separate. Changing one of them does not automatically change the other.
Change Password for an Installed App
Below the main package details, you will find a list of installed applications.
Each installed app has its own password change option. To change the password for a specific app, find the application on the list and click the key icon next to it.
In the Client Area, this option is displayed only as a key icon. When you move your mouse over the icon, the tooltip will show Change Password.
After clicking the key icon, a password change window will open. Enter or generate a new password and save the changes.
The video above shows how to use the key icon to open the password change window for an installed app.
The new password will apply only to the selected application.
Use the key icon next to the exact app for which you want to change the password. Each installed app has its own separate password change option.
Application passwords are separate from your FTP/SSH and HTTP passwords. If you change the password for one app, it does not change passwords for other apps or for SSH/FTP access. Each password must also be unique and cannot be reused for another app or service.
Which Password Should You Change?
- FTP/SSH password – use this if you want to change the password for SSH, SFTP or FTP access.
- HTTP password – use this if you want to change the password for HTTP protected access.
- App password – use the key icon next to the selected installed app. The tooltip for this icon shows Change Password.
Common Password Error
If your password does not meet the requirements or is already used by another app or service, the system will display an error and the password will not be changed.
In that case, choose a different password that:
- Has not been used for any other app or service.
- Meets all password complexity requirements listed above.
Verification
If the password was saved successfully, use the new password the next time you log in to the selected service or application.
If you use an FTP/SFTP client, SSH client or application that stores saved passwords, remember to update the saved password there as well.
