How to Null Route or Unnull Route a VPS IP Address

This guide explains how to null route or unnull route an IP address assigned to your VPS server.

Null routing blocks network traffic for the selected IP address. This can be useful when you need to temporarily block traffic to an IP address, for example during an attack or abuse issue.

⚠ Important

When an IP address is null routed, services using this IP address will not be reachable until the null route is removed.

Open VPS IP Addresses

To manage null routing for your VPS IP address:

  • Log in to the Client Area.
  • Go to My Services.
  • Open your VPS service.
  • Go to the IP Addresses tab.

Check Null Route Status

In the IP Addresses tab, find the IP address you want to manage.

Under the Null Routed section, you can see whether the IP address is currently null routed or not.

You can also move your mouse cursor over the icon or button in this section to see the current status and available action.

Null Route an IP Address

If the IP address is not currently null routed, the button will allow you to null route it.

Click the button under the Null Routed section to null route the selected IP address.

After the action is completed, traffic to this IP address will be blocked.

Unnull Route an IP Address

If the IP address is currently null routed, the button will allow you to remove the null route.

Click the button under the Null Routed section to unnull route the selected IP address.

After the action is completed, traffic to this IP address should be allowed again.

ℹ Button Action

The same button is used for both actions. The available action changes depending on the current IP status. If the IP is not null routed, the button can null route it. If the IP is already null routed, the button can unnull route it.

Verification

✔ Null Route Status Updated

If the status under the Null Routed section changes after clicking the button, the null route action was applied successfully.

⚠ Connection Notice

If you null route the main VPS IP address, you may lose access to services running on that IP address until the null route is removed.
