How to Use Console Access for a VPS
This guide explains how to open Console Access for your VPS server from the Client Area.
Console Access gives you direct access to the VPS screen in a new browser window. It works like a virtual KVM console and can be useful when normal SSH access is not available.
Console Access is useful for troubleshooting boot problems, network configuration issues, firewall mistakes or SSH access problems.
When to Use Console Access
You can use Console Access when:
- SSH is not responding,
- the VPS firewall blocks SSH access,
- the network configuration inside the VPS is incorrect,
- the VPS is booting or stuck during startup,
- you need to check system errors directly from the server console.
Console Access does not fix the server automatically. It only gives you direct access to the VPS screen, so you can log in and troubleshoot the problem manually.
Open Console Access
To open Console Access:
- Log in to the Client Area.
- Go to My Services.
- Open your VPS service.
- On the main VPS page, click the CONSOLE ACCESS button.
The console will open in a new browser window.
If the console window does not open, check whether your browser blocked the pop-up window and allow pop-ups for the Client Area.
Log in from the Console
After the console window opens, you should see the VPS screen.
If the VPS is running and the operating system has booted, you can log in using your server login details.
For Linux VPS servers, the username is usually:
root
The root password can be found in the Credentials tab in the Client Area.
When typing the password in the console, it may not be visible on the screen. This is normal Linux behaviour.
Console Access vs SSH
Console Access is different from SSH.
- SSH requires working network access inside the VPS.
- Console Access works even if SSH or network configuration inside the VPS is broken.
For normal server management, SSH is usually more convenient. Console Access should mainly be used for recovery or troubleshooting.
Common Use Cases
Console Access can help in situations such as:
- checking why the VPS does not boot correctly,
- fixing an incorrect firewall rule,
- repairing broken network configuration,
- resetting network services,
- checking system logs when SSH is unavailable.
Verification
If the console window opens and you can see the VPS screen, Console Access is working correctly.
If the console does not open, make sure pop-ups are allowed in your browser and try again from the Client Area.
